2 Chainz Album Cover

Artist: 2 Chainz (@2Chainz)

Album:  ‘B.O.A.T.S II #METIME’

Label: Def Jam

Release Date:  September 10, 2013

On his debut album, ‘Based On A T.R.U Story’,  2 Chainz enjoyed the success of “No Lie”, “I’m Different”, and “Birthday Song”. They all were certified Gold including the album. The success of the album lead to a Grammy nomination. Now we’re here for his sophomore album, ‘B.O.A.T.S II #METIME’. If you love music with trap beats that feature references to illegal activity, fly shit, and women, you’ll love this album. Now you have to come into this thinking if you’re not a fan of the content mentioned in his music as a whole, you might have a hard time appreciating this.

He’s leading this album with “Feds Watching” as the first single. All signs say it was a great idea! A song conjured up on Grammy night along with Pharrell Williams who also produced the track? Right?!

..but then there’s the rest of the album. He’s clearly influenced by the Hot Boyz on “Used To”.  He recruited Fergie to rap on the hook of this “Netflix”. I guess Miley wasn’t available. You know she’s a little busy twerking on stage at Juicy J concerts. Bitches will love twerking to a lot of songs on this album. The T-Pain feature is the most horrible thing on the album that would have been better executed if he used somebody with soul to sing.  The song that stood out the most was “Black Unicorn” because he gets upstaged lyrically by a Chrisette Michele but it’s the only song other than “Feds Watching” that I like on the album.

This album stays true to 2 Chainz. It’s not a bad listen if you’re in the mood for it. Lots of songs you can expect to hear in the strip clubs. He’s says some clever things here and there but after a while it starts sounding like the same thing with different features. There are a few exceptions. All in all, trunks will rattle and speakers will blow. I wish 2 Chainz would have pushed the envelope creatively……
