The Weeknd Kiss LAnd Album Cover

Artist: The Weeknd (@TheWeeknd)

Album:  ‘Kiss Land’

Label: XO/ Republic Records

Release Date:  September 10, 2013

Do you have time to get lost in the world of The Weeknd because that’s exactly what will happen when you push play on this album. I can easily have this on replay all day. There’s just something about his voice that hypnotizes you no matter how hard you try to fight it. What’s even crazier is that even though he may sing in a soft melodic fashion, he’s some kind of sex wizard through his lyrics. I caution you to play this if you’re having sex with somebody for the first time. The new pussy feel colliding with the sounds of The Weeknd may cause an accidental pregnancy.

The strategically orchestrated female pornstar sound clips during “Pretty” will make you giggle but take you on a ride until you feel like your going to climax because you’re so in tuned with the beat and the sound of The Weeknd’s voice. There’s only one feature on this project and it’s the usual suspect, his OVOXO brother, Drake. This is the only and as “turn up” as it’s going to get for The Weeknd. Definitely paints a story of the life a young nigga winning.

When asked about his album a few months back by Complex Magazine, he said:

“Kiss Land symbolizes the tour life, but it’s a world that I created in my head. Just like House of Balloons symbolizes Toronto and my experiences there, but it’s a world that I created. When I think about Kiss Land, I think about a terrifying place. It’s a place I’ve never been to before that I’m very unfamiliar with. A lot of it is inspired by filmmakers like John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, and Ridley Scott, because they know how to capture fear. That’s what Kiss Land is to me, an environment that’s just honest fear. I don’t know who I am right now and I’m doing all these outlandish things in these settings that I’m not familiar with. To me, it’s the most terrifying thing ever. So when you hear the screams in the record and you hear all these horror references and you feel scared, listen to the music because I want you to feel what I’m feeling. Kiss Land is like a horror movie.

The album takes you on a psychedelic mind fuxxing journey that finally comes to an end after 10 tracks. Is that the horror The Weeknd wanted me to feel? Not quite?  Maybe it’s those dirty and freaky words coming from the type of bad boys your parent warned you about. This is probably considered romantic dirty alley way sex music for some. Pretty good for a debut studio album. This album is definitely NSFW if you’re employed in a traditional office work setting. On the other hand, these could be some great private dance song selections for some strippers out there. My vote? Worth listening to AND BUYING.
